Dr. Rose is a psychologist and neuroscientist with expertise in brain imaging with clinical and non-clinical populations. Her research focuses on the ways in which adversity and trauma impact brain development in children and adolescents and how these impacts are associated with high-risk outcomes, like substance use..

Hungry Brain Study Team

This study aims to characterize the neurobiological impacts of food deprivation within the context of food insecurity (FI) in an attempt to delineate the mechanism(s) by which childhood FI may increase the risk for substance use in adolescence.
Student Life Survey
This pilot project will consider how the different types of experiences that undergraduate students have on campus influence personal and academic outcomes. Study measures include indices of racism and discrimination, food insecurity, and mental health. (Funded by the Child Study Center at Penn State; PIs: Rose and Bruening)

Ashley Catron
Estelle graduated in 2024 with a bachelor of science with honors in science and a biological science and health professions option. She is working in a clinical setting for a year prior to applying to medical school. Estelle supported the Hungry Brain Study.
Daniel is a recent graduate from Penn State. He majored in psychology (neuroscience concentration) and graduated in the summer of 2022. He has been working with Dr. Rose and the ROAR team since the summer of 2020. Daniel provides support to our project on mindfulness-based practices for opioid use disorder.
Olivia-Grace ('Liv') majored in psychology Penn State and joined the ROAR team in June 2022. Liv primarily supported the Hungry Brain Study and graduated in 2023.
Ashley graduated in 2024 with a bachelor of science of science and a minor in psychology. She supported the Hungry Brain Study and will work as a research assistant prior to attending medical school.
